1-Earwax, Poses Risk for Cognitive Decline.

Wax buildup occurs more often in older ears than those of the young.. And when it goes unrecognized, it can pose serious problems for the elderly. The excessive amount [of earwax] can cause hearing loss or ringing in your ears. Some people experience vertigo, which increases the risk of falling, Impacted earwax can be a particular problem for patients with dementia. It exacerbates hearing loss, which can impede communication and worsen aggression and other difficult behaviors.

Goal. We do know about 75% of people living in care and nursing homes have some degree of impaction and most are completely impacted,

2-Serious weight loss may be a side effect of cholinesterase inhibitors, they also may be responsable for a number of other side effects.

Goal: This is very relevant to patient care because unintentional weight loss in older adults is associated with many adverse outcomes, including increased rates of institutionalization and mortality in older people. We are aware cholinesterase inhibitors can have gastrointestinal side effects along with other problems including bradycardia and other heart problems.

3-Early memory loss.

Goal: Mental health is the world’s largest economic burden. By sensitively measuring cognitive performance people with problems can be identified earlier, access treatments faster, and stay healthy for longer, improving quality of life and reducing costs.
